Q:聞いた と と聞いている はどう違いますか?
A: 聞いた simply means that "I heard it (information, what someone said.)" That sentence is only explaining what happened "at one point in the past."

聞いている "I heard it(information, what someone said) and it hasn't changed even now. The speaker believes/thinks that information or what someone said is still true.

彼は病気だと聞いた。
=彼は病気だと誰かから聞いた。
The speaker is only saying that, at one point in the past, he heard someone say he had some sort of illness. (He still may have the same illness and he may be not. It can mean either of those two different meanings according to the situation.) In other words, you can't tell if he has recovered from the illness and which is the case only by hearing someone say the phrase "彼は病気だと聞いた.")


彼は病気だと聞いている。
=彼は病気だと聞いた。そして、彼はまだ病気だ(と信じている・と考えている)。
The speaker is only saying that at one point in the past, he heard someone say he had some sort of illness and the speaker still believes that it's still the case that he has that sort of sickness at this moment too.


彼は東大(とうだい)出身(しゅっしん)だと聞いた。
彼は東大出身だと聞いたが、あとでそれは嘘(うそ)だとわかった。
I had heard that he was from the University of Tokyo, but I found out it was a lie.
(This is only a possible sentence.)



彼は東大出身だと聞いていたが、あとで嘘だとわかった (今も事実として正しい、と信じている)
He(or Somebody) told me that he was from the University of Tokyo (and I used to believe it), but I found out it was a lie.
