The narrator of the poem notices how well her body is formed under her wet, clinging dress. This became a metaphor for the loss of Jenny's innocence. In the novel, Holden Caulfield, wants to be a person who dwells in that field of rye helping people like Jenny to preserve their innocence, so they never have to turn into adults. Holden Caulfield wants to catch (catcher = one who catches) children and save them for adulthood.
