Q: read her instructions と read instructions to her はどう違いますか?
A: @iesha:
I think that this a little difficult question. Which is it why is was probably left unanswered.. 😅 but I can probably explain it.

She handed me a drink is simply more casual than She handed the drink to me.

I read her the instructions is much more simple shortened way of saying things.

Both have the same meaning it means you have already read something. You have already done it.

We Americans often like to find easier ways to say things. Like Air-conditioner is often shortened to AC.

Example of Typical English shortening:

She handed me a quarter. I gave the change to her.

Or

She handed the quarter to me. I gave the change back to her.

There is not really much of difference. But perhaps the shows much more importance and formality.

And a is more casual often used for one of something.

I'm not sure if this is helpful to you.. 😅 I may have just written a lot.
