A: Knickerbocker is a old term. It was an old family name in New York, New York that became part of a sort of sport fashion. Where to save pants from getting dirty/ muddy. Men would tuck their pants into long socks. At first just to play casual sport but then, it became a fashion on it's own.

Later, as the fashion spread across the u.s.a. people outside of New York started calling people living in New York city Knickerbockers.

There are also sports teams in New York state that are called Knickerbocker's or the Knick's. Which is short for Knickerbocker.
