Q:
The orchestra ____for about ten minutes when a man in the audience suddenly began shouting.
A. was playing
B. had been playing
I don’t totally understand past perfect continuous tense, could you please explain it ?
The answer is B, why doesn’t it use “had played”? We usually use perfect present tense when “for + time” is used, but when do we use past tense if “for + time” turns up ?

A:
To me, both “had been playing” and “had played” could work here, though I do think “had been playing” is more natural.
“Had been playing” shows that they weren’t finished playing when the man started shouting. They were in the middle of playing, and then he shouted.
“Had played” sounds like the man waited for them to finish ten minutes of their concert and then decided to shout. The action was over, and then he shouted.

Q:
The orchestra is amazing. So I got goosebumps. この表現は自然ですか?
A:
"The orchestra is amazing" is basically in present continuous tense.
That means you are currently finding it amazing.
so using " I got goosebumps" wont be right because that is in simple past tense.
The right way can be :
"The orchestra is amazing..i am getting goosebumps"
or
" The orchestra was amazing..i got goosebumps"
either use the whole thing in present tense or the whole thing in past tense.
hope that helped :)
