It's a good (and tough) question! 書かれている and 書いてある are interchangeable, but they have subtle differences.
書かれている sounds like from an objective/neutral, a fact-based perspective. 書いてある bears a nuance of "I found/discovered that" or "it turned out that".
Suppose that a diary about the death of an Egyptian king was recently discovered. The new discovery completely denies the previous theory of his death.
If you say "この日記には ... と書いてある", it sounds like a surprise or great discovery. You highlight the action vividly. So, the previous theory was debunked!! -- this sentence bears such a nuance.
If you say "この日記には ... と書かれている", it sounds like you are not sure which theory is correct. You deal with the previous common theory and this new discovery equally. 書かれている is a passive form, and Japanese speakers often use a passive form to soften the tone (or make an excuse not to jump to the wrong conclusion).
But again, the difference is very subtle. You can ignore it.
