Could you tell me which is natural?
If I were rich, I would quit a job and take a long trip. However, after I “am” satisfied with the trip, I would start to work again.
If I were rich, I would quit a job and take a long trip. However, after I “were” satisfied with the trip, I would start to work again.
It’s an unreal situation. Which should I use “am” or “were” ? Does this sound natural?

@buenasuertefutbolsal Surprisingly, "I were" is correct because it is an unreal (hypothetical) situation. In English grammar this is called "subjunctive".

Thank you!
Subjunctive is difficult especially when it includes “ when “ or “after” in the sentences. I am always confused which tense should I use after “ when “ or “after” .

Most native English speakers have the same problem with the subjunctive mood so don't worry!
For example, most people would say "I wish I was a dog" instead of "I wish I were a dog", even though the second example is grammatically correct in the subjunctive mood.
I would look up "Grammarly was vs were" on Google for a chart that might help!
