Hi. Can a local tell me if it is legal to view pornography in Singapore? Do people never watch porn because of the fines imposed?

I'm headed there for a few months and I'd like to know beforehand before I get myself arrested

It is completely legal, although the government does ban access to certain popular adult websites - All of which can be bypassed by use of a VPN.

You’re not going to get fined or arrested for viewing pornography; have fun.

@greatgreenman I read posts about this and most people say that it's not illegal as long as we don't get caught, correct? and watching is allowed but not bringing pornographic materials into possession, is it true?

It's not illegal to watch, but it is illegal to be in possession of any pornographic material, which includes downloading them to your devices.
So don't bring any in or out of the country and you should be fine.
(Or you could just abstain from porn for your trip and enjoy the country ☺👌🏼)

@Astrrrid kind of. You can view pornographic websites but it’s technically illegal to keep or distribute pornographic materials, meaning you can watch, but not download.

It’s one of those inane archaic laws Singapore has that doesn’t really get enforced, like it being an offence to not flush a toilet bowl in a public restroom for example.

Pornography is one of those things that are incredibly widespread and can’t really be regulated. Even North Koreans have it despite them facing execution if they ever got caught with possession..

@VoidLime hahaha sure! I was just thinking how tough life could be there if it's totally banned. I mean, SG is well-known for its strict laws and fines. @greatgreenman I understand it better now. Point is keep devices clean from related materials. :D

I mean the government definitely can trace down all the porn site u went to and what you have downloaded. But as much as Singapore government is concerned, as Long as there’s no indecent act or like you setting up a workshop to show young kids your porn collection, you are pretty much safe to watch it discreetly. Though there are certain websites that are banned, for those notorious porn sites.

Incognito doesn’t do anything to prevent ISP tracking. It just stops your web browser from saving your browsing history. Internet anonymity requires VPN at bare minimum or an onion router/Tor browser.
