What is the difference between 本日 and
今日?? Do they both mean the same thing “today”, or are they used differently? Any explanation and maybe some examples would be really helpful. Thank you😊

本日 is the formal form of 今日.
今日 暇(ひま)? would be the casual way of saying 'Are you free today?'
本日 暇? sounds unnatural.
本日 may not be how we usually say it.
